Christmas Party Survival Guide

Well well well, here we are again.

It sure comes around quickly, doesn’t it?

One minute your carving pumpkins, then all of a sudden it’s the time to pull on an ugly, itchy snowman jumper and pretend to care about how Gladys cooks her parsnips (breadcrumbs and parmesan if you were wondering).

You guessed it – it’s office Christmas party season ⛄⛄⛄

Seeing as we’ve thrown our fair share over the years, we thought we’d share a few tips we’ve picked up along the way.

  • “Nice to see you” – There’s nothing worse than greeting someone with “good to meet you”, only for them to remind you that you’ve met before. If you’re part of a larger company, it can be tricky to keep track of who you’ve met, let alone remember their name. A simple “nice to see you” covers all bases and avoids embarrassment for both parties.
  • Line your stomach – We’ve all been there. You finish for the day at 12 but dinner’s not till 6, so you make your way to reception for a few drinks. Then one prosecco leads to two, two leads to five, and before you know it, you’re twerking in front of the MD. A Tesco meal deal might just save your job, and your dignity!
  • Irish Exit – Leaving can be tricky, especially if you announce it. All it takes is a little peer pressure and all of a sudden, you’re in the Account Manager’s kitchen at 3am listening to his thoughts on who should have won Strictly. Get out while you can – and do it quietly!
  • Save money for a taxi – it might only seem like a short distance after a few beers, but it also feels like a scene out of Final Destination when you’re 8 tins deep
  • Learn to keep a secret – especially when it comes to career plans, leaving the business or that job you interviewed for last week – you might find a colleague enters the race, or you end up in an awkward meeting if the word gets out
  • Don’t ask for a payrise – you know you’re worth it, you’ve got the results to prove it, but pick a better time!

Clients who choose to work with Shift F5 can expect invaluable advice like the above on a regular basis, although it’s usually a little more recruitment focused.

So whether you chose to make an ass out of yourself at the party or not, We’re booking in calls with our clients throughout this week and next to discuss Q1 hiring plans, current market trends and salary benchmarking.

With that being said, would you be interested in setting up a call with us?

Thanks,

Olly
